Reva will provide battery technology for e-Spark. e-Spark will based on existing Spark architecture. e-Spark has been designed keeping environmental issues and carbon emission into consideration. E-Spark will trigger the green concept in the Indian auto mobile industry and it will fuel the future technology for the cars in India.
Design
e-Spark comes with comfortable 5 seating capacity. Body type is hatch back.Four doors will facilitate easy entry and exit. E-spark comes with automatic gear mechanism; you need not worry about managing clutch every time. It will come handy in the cities which have heavy traffic density. It is a fully automatic car and it has unique propulsion which will enable easy driving. Initially, it may be little difficult to adjust for its new driving mechanism. Dash board is smartly and uniquely designed, it is very informative which will provide necessary signals to the driver.
Specifications
e-Spark's car battery is powered by very high power and efficient e-Spark RECC EV powertrain. RECC EV power train is supplied by Reva. Reva have done lot of research in electric battery management and they have succeeded in developing efficient and powerful battery. As soon as we pedal the accelerator, powerful electric AC motor will exert 100% torque, which will boost the acceleration. It has 2 modes namely Regular drive mode and boost mode which will power the car with high torque electric AC motor. Boost mode provides additional torque for short duration to the vehicle so that driver can adjust his driving style.
e-Spark comes with 995cc, 4 cylinder Plus Electric motor.. Earlier, electric car launched by Reva, did not got popularized much due to its only 2 seating capacity, maximum speed of 80KMPH and short battery life. But this time, e-Spark have come up with all the customer benefits, that one could expect from small segment Petrol and Diesel cars
It is too early to predict its performance by seeing its specification and also some of the critical features of the car like maximum torque, maximum speed was not revealed yet. Chevrolet has not altered the exterior of the car much. The exterior resembles almost same as its predecessor. They would have made it more appealing and more modern.
e-Spark lacks the safety features. Though it is priced at 7 lakh, it doesn't offer airbags parking sensors and safety features. It will be even more elegant, if they include some of these safety features.
Cost and Launch
e-Spark will be priced at 7 lakh at New Delhi. GM is thinking of adopting the same model with the 800CC engine. If they adopt this, they may reduce the existing price; then it will give competition for lower segment cars like Maruthi Alto, Hyundai Santro and other segment cars. It may give competition to smaller segment cars and as well as to the middle segment cars to certain extent.
GM is planning to produce 5000 cars initially, is expected to launch in Oct'10.
The car will be rollout from Telegoan facility in Maharashtra and Halol plant in Gujarat.
Final word
e-Spark is a new innovative car comes with 5 seating capacity and other full-fledged features. More importantly, it is battery powered and zero carbon emission car. It will take Indian Automobile industry into future, welcome move by GM & Reva motors, and other rival are expected to follow soon. Both state and central government may give subsidy for this car to promote it, for its environmental friendly features.
